CLEARWATER, Fla. – The third annual Big Cleanup Clearwater is right around the corner in October, and registration is now open for volunteers to choose a cleanup site to lend a hand in helping to collect litter throughout the city during the weeklong event.

From Oct. 9-14, the goal is to collect as much litter from Clearwater’s beaches, parks, streets, beaches and trails. Businesses, neighborhood groups, organizations and community members can volunteer their time throughout the week at numerous sites in the city.

Anyone can volunteer, and community groups are welcome. Site captains will be stationed at cleanup sites, and they will host the signing in of volunteers, distribute supplies, collect trash, and weigh the trash removed from each location.

The Big Cleanup Clearwater is a collaborative effort hosted by the city of Clearwater, Keep Pinellas Beautiful, Ocean Allies, Visit St. Pete/Clearwater and AMPLIFY Clearwater.

Volunteers for this family-friendly community event will be entered to win awards in the following three categories:

– The Power Picker (total weight divided by total volunteers, per site).

– The Bambino (awarded to the youngest volunteer)

– The Golden Guardian (awarded to the oldest volunteer)

Medals made with sustainability in mind will be presented to the winners at a Clearwater City Council meeting after the cleanup. For more information and to register, visit www.TheBigCleanupClearwater.com
