Trustees at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill dealt liberals a double blow on Monday.
First, the board voted unanimously to gut the budget of the school’s “diversity, equity, and inclusion” program, according to the Daily Wire. The move would essentially dismantle the program.
However, trustees also agreed to redirect the agency’s $2.3 million budget to the UNC police department and boost security across campus.

The decision comes amid ongoing pro-Hamas protests at many elite colleges, especially in blue states.
But UNC is not immune to that.
The Daily Wire reported that more than 30 people were arrested last month at UNC for an unauthorized pro-Hamas encampment where protesters ripped down the American flag and replaced it with a Palestinian flag.
“I think that DEI in a lot of people’s minds is divisiveness, exclusion and indoctrination,” said Marty Kotis, vice chairman of the trustees’ budget committee, which recommended the funding shift. “We need more unity and togetherness, more dialogue, more diversity of thought.”

“It’s important to consider the needs of all 30,000 students, not just the 100 or so that may want to disrupt the university’s operations,” Kotis added. “It takes away resources for others.” “When you destroy property or you take down the U.S flag and you have to put up gates around it — that costs money,” Kotis added. “It’s imperative that we have the proper resources for law enforcement to protect the campus.”
