HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL. – In an ongoing effort to support and improve local communities, the Union Home Mortgage Foundation is giving back by donating $10,000 to Habitat for Humanity of Hillsborough County (Habitat Hillsborough).
Habitat Hillsborough’s homeownership program empowers low- and moderate-income Tampa Bay families living in substandard housing to become homeowners. Successful homeowner program applicants must demonstrate financial stability and commit to giving at least 300 hours of their time to help build their own home as well as the homes of other Habitat candidates.
To prepare for successful homeownership, families are also required to take workshops that help them acquire the skills to maintain their new homes. The workshops include courses on financial literacy, minor home repair and budgeting.
Each spring, Habitat Hillsborough launches its annual Realtor Build for a Tampa family in need of a safe home. Real estate agencies and banks contribute funding for the house while their staffs volunteer labor to help build the home. Construction of the latest Realtor Build will take place this summer, and a family will move in sometime during the winter.
“Homeownership is the No. 1 way in America to create wealth. Thank you to the Union Home Mortgage Foundation for providing that opportunity to a family in our community just in time for Christmas!” said Tina Forcier, CEO of Habitat for Humanity of Hillsborough County.
“We’re proud to support Habitat for Humanity of Hillsborough County,” said Bill Cosgrove, President & CEO of Union Home Mortgage. “Homeownership is at the core of everything we do, which is why our organization aligns well with the mission of Habitat for Humanity of Hillsborough. We look forward to seeing these efforts culminate in a worthy family achieving the dream of homeownership.”
