Trump Requests Another Recount in the State Georgia, Activists Come out in Atlanta

Georgia is set to recount its presidential election votes after the Trump campaign filed a request on Saturday. Republican Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger certified the state’s election results on Friday, and those results showed former Vice President Joe Biden beat President Trump by 12,670 votes out of the 5 million votes cast. Republican Gov. Brian Kemp then certified the state’s slate of 16 presidential electors.

So why is the Trump Campaign requesting another recount?

Before certifying the election results, Georgia conducted an audit which was to hand recount of all 5,000,000 ballots. But under Georgia state law, a losing candidate may request a recount if the margin is less than or equal to 0.5%. If this threshold is not met, then there are no grounds on which a candidate can request a recount.

Unlike the audit, this recount will be done by machine, under the rules of the Georgia Election Code, and will be an expedited process.

On Saturday, activists gathered in Atlanta, Georgia, for a “Stop the Steal” rally in support of President Trump and his efforts to ensure election integrity after Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger (R) certified the State’s election results.
