In a head-to-head matchup in 2024, former President Donald Trump now leads President Joe Biden by five points, according to a poll released on Tuesday.
A Messenger/HarrisX poll finds that among registered voters, Trump is leading Biden 47% to 40%, with 13% still undecided. In a prior Messenger/HarrisX survey, which was released on November 1, the former president’s lead of 2 points was maintained, with 12% of registered voters expressing uncertainty about their choice.
According to the survey, Trump led among the important voting bloc in a four-way contest involving third-party candidates Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Cornel West, with independents favoring him over Biden at 45% to 32%, and 23% remaining undecided.

In a four-way race, Biden also trailed Trump by seven points; independents Kennedy and West received 14% and 2% of the vote, respectively, and 11% of voters were undecided.
The poll comes after a string of other national and state-specific surveys that show Trump ahead of Biden by a significant margin. According to a Nov. 5 New York Times/Siena College poll, the former president is leading by three to ten points in Georgia, Arizona, Michigan, Nevada, and Pennsylvania.
According to the survey, 40% of Democrats are against Biden’s reelection campaign, compared to only 25% of Republicans who feel the same way about Trump, even though the majority of voters don’t think either major party candidate should seek another term.
Additionally, 57% of respondents disapproved of President Biden’s job performance, with just 39% approving.
The poll puts Trump ahead of the other GOP primary contenders by 51 points, with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis trailing at 11%.
Former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley received 10% of the vote, conservative businessman Vivek Ramaswamy received 4%, and the support received by all other GOP candidates was less than 2%.

With a 65% lead over the small field of Democratic primary contenders, Biden also had a significant lead over self-help author Marianne Williamson and Minnesota Representative Dean Phillips, who received 5% and 4% of the vote, respectively.
With a 1.8% margin of error, 3,017 registered voters were surveyed for the Messenger/HarrisX poll between November 15 and November 19.
