MONROE COUNTY, Fla. – A 35-year-old Tampa man has been arrested for allegedly stealing two Spanish gold coins, valued at over $50,000, from a resident in the Lower Keys.
Keiontae Raneake Osean Smith faces charges of grand theft and dealing in stolen property.

According to authorities, Smith agreed to purchase the coins from the Bay Point resident for around $53,750 via wire transfer in August 2024. However, during the exchange, Smith presented a picture of what appeared to be a wire transfer confirmation, but the funds were never actually sent.
The victim later discovered that Smith had provided a fake bank tracking number, a fraudulent payment card number, and had even used a false name during negotiations.

Warrants were subsequently issued for Smith’s arrest, leading to his apprehension and booking into jail on Thursday.
