TAMPA, Fla. – Tampa Electric Company (TECO) is facing substantial costs associated with the restoration efforts following Hurricanes Helene and Milton. The utility company estimates that it could seek to recover between $45 million and $55 million from customers for Hurricane Helene and a staggering $320 million to $370 million for Hurricane Milton.
To recoup these costs, TECO will need approval from the Florida Public Service Commission.

While the exact timing of the recovery request is yet to be determined, historical precedent suggests that such costs are often recovered through adjustments to base rates.
Other major Florida utilities, such as Florida Power & Light and Duke Energy Florida, are also grappling with significant storm-related costs. FPL has requested approval for nearly $1.2 billion to cover restoration expenses, while Duke Energy Florida’s estimated costs range from $1.1 billion to $1.3 billion.
