COLUMBUS, OH. – The Tampa Bay Lightning suffered a heartbreaking 7-6 overtime loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets Thursday night at Nationwide Arena.
Despite a strong offensive performance that saw six different Lightning players score goals, including Brayden Point’s power-play tally and Nikita Kucherov’s 900th career point, the Bolts couldn’t hold off a late surge by the Blue Jackets.
Zach Werenski led the way for Columbus with an impressive five-point night, including the game-winning goal in overtime.
The Lightning outscored the Blue Jackets 3-1 in the first period, but Columbus battled back to tie the game at 4 in the second. The teams traded goals in the third period, with Columbus ultimately securing the victory in overtime.
Notable Performances:
- Nikita Kucherov: Recorded his 900th career point, becoming the third-fastest active player to reach that milestone.
- Brayden Point: Scored a power-play goal and extended his point streak to seven games.
- Brandon Hagel: Tallied a goal and an assist, moving him one goal shy of his 100th NHL goal.
- Anthony Cirelli: Extended his goal streak to four games.
- Victor Hedman: Blocked a season-high eight shots.
