SAINT PETERSBURG, FL. – At 9:46 a.m., on Wednesday, September 23rd, bicyclist, 49-year-old Earnest Jenkins, was southbound on the west side of Dr. MLK Street South. Jenkins continued through the red light at 22nd Avenue South and struck the side of an SUV that was eastbound with the green light.

Jenkins was transported to Bayfront Health and today, he died of his injuries.

The SUV driver, Donald Davis, 60, did not stop at the scene of the crash. Traffic homicide investigators identified and located the SUV driver. According to Pinellas County records, Davis is a habitual offender of driving without a valid license.

On Thursday Davis was arrested for leaving the scene of a crash involving death and driving while license was suspended.
