Six people were hospitalized for gunshot wounds sustained at a “celebration of life” event in Springfield, Ohio, in the early hours of Wednesday morning, according to police.
The gunman, an unidentified individual wearing a mask, fled the scene before authorities arrived, Lt. Randall Ballentine said, according to Fox 19. The incident occurred at an event hall rented out for private events.
Officials received 911 calls reporting multiple shooting victims around 2 a.m., Ballentine said, according to Fox 19. One person was airlifted to the Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio, and five others were transported to the Springfield Regional Medical Center.
The victims’ personal information and condition are unknown, and police are unsure of the shooter’s motive, according to Fox 19. Attendees told police the event was a “celebration of life” for someone who died several years ago.
The Springfield police, Ohio State Highway Patrol and Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation are investigating the incident, Ballentine said, according to Fox 19.
