The Democrats’ hunger for abortion seems to know no bounds.

After having already called for the Biden administration to set up abortion oases on federal land all over the country, but especially in red states that don’t want it, 25 Democrats in the U.S. Senate, led by Sen. Elizabeth Warren, now demand the Department of Veterans Affairs provide abortions – something the VA is legally prohibited from doing.

According to a press release from Warren’s office on Friday, VA regulations ban the agency “from providing abortions and abortion counseling as part of the medical benefits package.”

Yet federal law says the VA secretary “shall furnish hospital care and medical services which the Secretary determines to be needed.”

The Democrats want VA Secretary Denis McDonough to simply declare abortion a “needed” service. They argue McDonough should immediately initiate the process to change the current regulations administratively.

“Last month’s disastrous Supreme Court decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization overturned the nearly fifty-year precedent established by Roe v. Wade and removed constitutional protection for abortion access from millions of individuals in this country, including an ever-growing number of veterans and dependents who are able to become pregnant,” the lawmakers wrote to McDonough.

“This decision makes it even more critical that veterans receive access to the reproductive care to which they are entitled. Thus, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) must urgently begin rulemaking to allow veterans and eligible dependents to receive abortions and all abortion-related services.”

“We call on you to take swift and decisive action to ensure that all of our veterans and CHAMPVA [a medical program for civilians under the VA] beneficiaries can access abortions and all abortion-related services,” the letter added.

The senators claim changing the rule will enable nearly 400,000 women veterans to access abortions.

The push for the VA to provide and conduct abortions is part of the left’s continued assault on the federal ban on taxpayer-funded procedures to end the lives of infants in the womb. That policy, known as the Hyde Amendment, has stood since 1976.
