ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – A 65-year-old man was tragically killed on his birthday after being struck by a PSTA bus while riding a motorized scooter. The incident occurred Tuesday morning at the intersection of 22nd Avenue North and the Pinellas Trail.
Police have identified the bus driver as 53-year-old Deanna Leigh Grayston. Grayston was driving westbound on 22nd Avenue North with 10 passengers on board when the accident happened.

According to investigators, a pedestrian activated the crosswalk signal at the Pinellas Trail, prompting the scooter rider to attempt to cross 22nd Avenue North. At the same time, the PSTA bus was approaching the intersection and failed to yield to pedestrian traffic, striking the man on the scooter.
The victim was transported to St. Petersburg Hospital – HCA Florida Healthcare, where he was pronounced dead. His name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
No injuries were reported among the passengers on the bus. The St. Petersburg Police Department is continuing to investigate the crash.
