Former President Donald Trump is the increasingly clear choice for American voters in 2024 in a head-to-head matchup against his successor.
A new poll, conducted last week by the left-wing media outlets Washington Post and ABC News, shows Trump with a 49-42 advantage over President Joe Biden.
Trump holds that lead even as at least 54% of respondents say he should face charges for the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol and for the alleged mishandling of classified documents.
Survey respondents trashed Biden in other ways as well.

The poll indicated that 56% of respondents disapprove of Biden’s overall job performance. Only 36% approve, but among those, half of them – 18% – just “somewhat” approve of Biden.
Trump also crushed Biden when respondents were asked who handled the economy better. Trump received 54%, compared to 36% for Biden.
Meanwhile, 58% of Democrats told pollsters that their party should nominate someone other than Biden next year.
Furthermore, 54% said Biden is not honest or trustworthy, which was up nine points from when the Post and ABC asked that question three years ago.
Even more telling, 63% said Biden lacks the mental sharpness to serve effectively as president. That was up 20 points from May 2020.
Ironically, Trump’s number on that question has gone in the opposite direction. In May 2020, 52% replied that Trump was not mentally capable of serving; today, that is down to 43%.
When asked about their respective ages, 43% said both Trump and Biden were too old to serve another term as president.

Yet when asked about them individually, 26% said “only” Biden was too old, compared to just 1% who responded that “only” Trump was too old.
The poll also noted that just 25% of respondents were Republicans.
