Polk County DOH Holds Mega Vaccine Event at RP Funding Center

LAKELAND, Fla. – The Florida Department of Health in Polk County, in partnership with RP Funding Center, hosted a mega COVID-19 vaccine point of dispensing (POD) site at RP Funding Center on Wednesday, March 10th.

DOH-Polk provided over 3,300 COVID-19 vaccines to individuals on Polk County’s

COVID-19 vaccine waitlist who are included under the governor’s current executive order.

“We are very pleased with how today’s mega vaccine distribution went,” says Dr. Joy Jackson, director of the Florida Department of Health in Polk County.

“A huge thanks goes to our partners at RP Funding Center for helping us plan and coordinate today’s event. Our collaboration allowed us to coordinate this large event quickly and provide over 3,300 vaccines to residents. This has been our largest vaccine event to date.”

Tony Camarillo, RP Funding Center Executive Director said, “Our facility is very well suited for events such as the county’s mega vaccine event.  We’re happy to host the event and be part of the solution to vaccinate our community against the COVID-19 pandemic.”

DOH-Polk encourages residents 18 years of age and older who are interested in receiving a COVID-19 vaccine to register through Polk’s vaccination portal, which can be found at https://register.polk.health/. As executive orders expand, DOH-Polk will be contacting individuals registered through the portal to make an appointment for vaccination.

Through the portal, individuals can create an account and upload personal information to be contacted for future appointments as current executive orders allow. Individuals 60 years of age and older may also call Polk County’s COVID-19 Vaccine Call Center at (863) 298-7500 for assistance in registering through the vaccine portal.

At this time, Polk County is up-to-date on appointments for current vaccine registrations. Currently, appointments are being scheduled next week for individuals who are registered in the portal that are included in the newest executive order which goes into effect on Monday, March 15th. This includes:

Long-term care facility residents and staff;  Persons 60 years of age and older;  Health care personnel with direct patient contact;

K-12 school employees 50 years of age and older;  Sworn law enforcement officers 50 years of age and older; and  Firefighters 50 years of age and older.
