HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL. – The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred Friday night in Brandon.

Deputies were called to the 1800 block of Lake Chapman Drive at 9:20 p.m., for reports of a possible shooting. Once on scene, deputies located one deceased male.

Detectives have determined the 16-year-old victim was shot in the parking lot of the Lakeshore Apartment Complex

At this time, there is no information on the shooter.

Detectives believe that this was a drug deal gone wrong, and there is no threat to the public.

“Tonight’s incident never should have occurred and had a tragic result,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “A teenager, a high school student, had his life cut short all because of a situation that could have been avoided.”

Anyone with information on this case is asked to call HCSO at 813-247-8200. This investigation remains active, any information will come from the Public Affairs Office.
