MULBERRY, Fla – The armed suspect who Polk County Sheriff’s Office negotiators were trying to work with toward a peaceful surrender, took his own life using his firearm at around 3:20 pm.

No deputies fired on the suspect, nor were any deputies injured.

Deputies with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office were negotiating with a man who was barricaded inside his car Tuesday afternoon.

In a news release, Polk County Sheriff said the man is armed and alone – parked near the Christina Animal Hospital in Mulberry.

“We have a perimeter set up, and the SWAT team has responded,” said PCSO initially.

Deputies are still currently on the scene conducting the investigation and collecting evidence.
