HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – Hillsborough County has issued mandatory evacuation orders for residents in Evacuation Zones A and B, as well as all mobile homes, effective 2:30 p.m. today.
With Hurricane Milton intensifying into a major Category 4 storm, residents in these areas must evacuate by 7 a.m. on Wednesday, October 9th.
Nine shelters will open this afternoon to accommodate evacuees, including those with special needs and pets.

Shelter Locations:
- General Population, Pet-Friendly: Burnett Middle School, Durant High School, Middleton High School, Shields Middle School, Sickles High School
- General Population, No Pets: Pizzo Elementary School
- Special Needs, Pet-Friendly: Erwin Technical College, Sumner High School, Strawberry Crest High School
Residents with special medical needs or cognitive impairments should seek shelter at the designated special needs locations. Those bringing pets must bring a carrier, leash, collar, and supplies for each animal.

Important Information for Residents:
- Confirm your evacuation zone: Visit HCFL.gov/StaySafe or call (833) HC-STORM to determine if you are in an evacuation zone.
- Register for HCFL Alert: Receive critical emergency notifications by registering for Hillsborough County’s public notification system at HCFL.gov/StaySafe.
- Transportation: HART will provide evacuation bus routes to shelters. Visit their website for details.
- Power Safety: Tampa Electric advises residents to turn off main breakers before evacuating to prevent electrical hazards in the event of flooding.
