HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – A 37-year-old Florida Road Ranger escaped a crash with only minor injuries after a 26-year-old Largo man smashes into his FDOT truck.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, around 6:30 am on Wednesday, a pickup truck driven by the Largo man was traveling northbound on I-275 near Milepost 59 and failed to avoid an FDOT Road Ranger with emergency lights activated and traffic cones deployed while protecting a previous traffic crash site in the inside lane.

Troopers say the pickup truck traveled through the cones and collided with the rear of the Road Ranger vehicle.

Neither the driver nor the four adult male passengers in the vehicle suffered injuries. The Road Ranger suffered minor injuries.

Florida Highway Patrol reminds us that January is Move Over Month, and that Florida law requires vehicles to move over a lane for certain emergency and service vehicles stopped on the side or the road, or slow down to 20 miles below the posted speed limit if it is not safe to move over.

“Help protect those who protect us – move over or slow down for emergency lights,” said FHP.
