POLK COUNTY, Fla. – A 70-year-old man from Lakeland tragically passed away Monday after suffering a medical emergency while driving.

The incident occurred around 5:40 PM on Thornhill Road, just north of Fox Hollow Drive. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the man was driving a Chevy SUV southbound when he experienced a medical episode, causing him to lose control of the vehicle. The SUV veered off the roadway, colliding with a tree and a fence.

Emergency responders transported the man to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The exact nature of the medical emergency has not been disclosed.
