Officers discovered a three-year-old boy secured in a car seat in the back of a parked SUV. The windows were slightly cracked, providing minimal ventilation, and the vehicle was off with no adult in sight.
Officers promptly removed the child from the unlocked vehicle. Medical personnel assessed the boy, who was thankfully in good health, although extremely hot and sweaty.
Investigators determined the child’s father, 70-year-old Sauveur Desulme, had left him alone in the car for over 20 minutes while shopping. Desulme was arrested and charged with negligent child abuse without bodily harm and leaving a child unattended in a vehicle for more than 15 minutes.
During questioning, Desulme stated that his child often misbehaves in stores, which is why he left him in the car.
