The 2023 IONIQ 6 has won its first Canadian award, with Le Guide de l’auto naming the latest EV from Hyundai, “New Car of the Year,” in the outlet’s annual “Best Buys” award program.
Le Guide de l’auto’s Vehicles of the Year awards program involves the input of eight renowned journalists, with over 150 years of collective experience evaluating new vehicles.
More than 40 vehicles were eligible for an award, and winners were selected based on their impact on the automobile market as well as five criteria:
- Fuel or energy consumption
- Predicted Reliability

“As one of the world’s leading regions for EV adoption, customers and journalists in the province of Quebec have an exceptional level of appreciation for electric vehicles. To receive this recognition for IONIQ 6 from Le Guide de l’auto – an outlet committed to providing deeply-researched and unbiased advice to Quebec consumers – is an honour we are very grateful for,” says Steve Flamand, director of product and corporate strategy at Hyundai Auto Canada.
“This was an exciting selection process for Le Guide de l’auto’s team this year, and our winners are a sure sign of exponential EV growth in the marketplace within the past 12 months. In addition of the New Car of the Year prize, awards were also presented for the New SUV of the Year and New Truck of the Year. For the first time ever, all three winners are electric vehicles,” says Frédéric Mercier, chief editor at Le Guide de l’auto.
“Even with the influx of electric powertrains in-market, and solid offerings in the ‘car’ award segment, IONIQ 6 stands out. Our judging panel agreed that the IONIQ 6 is a competent electric vehicle that impressed us with its design, but also with its driving dynamics and its electric range of almost 500 kilometres,” Mercier said.
