For all the talk about Washington and the Republican Party being tossed into chaos and divisiveness because Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz and other GOP lawmakers challenged former Speaker Kevin McCarthy, conservatives have voted with their checkbooks.
Politico reported on Monday that the National Republican Congressional Committee, or NRCC, posted its biggest fundraising haul in nearly two years on the day after Louisiana Republican Rep. Mike Johnson became McCarthy’s replacement as speaker.

On Johnson’s first full day in the new post, the NRCC snared $175,000 — the most the committee received in more than 18 months. The NRCC’s main focus is getting Republicans elected to Congress.
Politico added that into Saturday, the NRCC had pulled in $475,000 during Johnson’s first three days in office.
The NRCC “set single-day records for individual donations and monthly donor sign-ups this cycle, and more than three-quarters of the overall digital haul came in response to emails signed by Johnson — an early sign of grassroots excitement about the new speaker,” Politico added.
“Speaker Johnson is off to a hot start in the money game. The NRCC is proud to partner with our Speaker to ensure we have the resources to grow our majority,” Jack Pandol, NRCC communications director, said in a statement.
The NRCC was already on a roll, even as turmoil gripped the Republican caucus and many conservatives were blaming Gaetz and other GOP conservatives for stifling the work of the House and hurting the party’s chances in 2024.

In an Oct. 20 press release, the NRCC noted that it raised $9.3 million in September and a total of $18.5 million for the third fundraising quarter of 2023.
“This fundraising haul marks the best presidential cycle off-year Q3 and best presidential cycle off-year September in NRCC history,” the committee said.
But the outlet noted that Johnson is also working to retain McCarthy loyalists with access to big money.
He endorsed the leadership at the Congressional Leadership Fund, which was staunchly allied with McCarthy and which is the biggest spender in House elections.
The group spent more than $250 million to help GOP candidates take back the House in 2022.
