TAMPA, Fla. – Hillsborough County Fire Rescue fought a garbage truck fire Monday morning off Himes Avenue near Waters Avenue.

Dispatchers received a 911 call at 5:14 A.M. from an individual reporting a garbage truck fire.

First arriving crews discovered a fully involved garbage truck and deployed handlines to attack the blaze.

Crews quickly suppressed the fire as the sanitation vehicle ran on compressed natural gas.

Firefighters were able to control the scene without further incident.

There were no injuries. Hillsborough County Public Works was called due to the damage to the road from the extreme heat of the fire.
