The House of Representatives has taken a significant step in approving a $61 billion aid package to Ukraine in its defense against Russia’s invasion.
However, the passage of the bill has also exposed the fragility of Speaker Mike Johnson’s slim majority, as more Democrats voted in favor of the bill than Republicans. With just 101 Republicans supporting the aid package and 112 voting against it, the bill’s passage was not without drama.
The Ukraine package passed with a vote of 311 to 112.

The fact that more Democrats voted for the bill reflects the growing division within the Republican party over Ukraine funding. The close margins within the GOP alone highlight the contentious nature of the topic.
Some legislators applauded while brandishing Ukrainian blue-and-yellow flags.
Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene blasted the passage Saturday.
“Mike Johnson’s House of Representatives so proud to work for Ukraine. Not the American people!!! It’s despicable!” said Greene on X.
“Zelensky thanks Speaker Mike Johnson (D-Ukraine) for sending $61 BILLION of your hard-earned tax dollars to fuel a foreign war. Johnson once again passed a bill with the help of Democrats while the majority of the Republican majority voted against it. Not only is Mike Johnson a traitor to our conference, he’s a traitor to our country,” Greene continued on X.
Greene, known for her opposition to Ukraine aid, has been leading a rebellion against Speaker Johnson. Last month, she filed a resolution to oust him, known as a motion to vacate, citing his cooperation with Democrats on government spending and foreign aid.
