Florida Senator Rick Scott issued a statement Thursday in response to reports that Vice President Kamala Harris is proposing federal price controls to address the historic inflation, which he attributes to the Biden-Harris administration’s failed policies, reckless spending, and opposition to U.S. energy.
Vice President Kamala Harris is poised to introduce a proposal to impose a federal ban on supposed corporate “price-gouging” on food and groceries.
Harris will announce the plan during a Friday speech detailing her economic agenda in North Carolina, where she will blame corporate consolidation and greed for the increased prices Americans are paying for their food and groceries, according to The Hill.

The proposal to attribute inflation to corporate greed echoes a common refrain from the Biden administration, which has consistently tried to pin responsibility for inflation on price gouging instead of its massive spending agenda.
The vice president will say during her Friday speech that meat costs are particularly responsible for the overall increases in food prices, according to The Hill.
The Consumer Price Index for “food at home” — including many items commonly purchased at grocery stores — is up by about 21% since 2021, when the Biden administration came into power.

Scott warned that federal price controls are a “dangerous and radical policy” that would harm American families and businesses, citing a 2022 report by the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, titled “Why Price Controls Should Stay in the History Books.”
Senator Scott said, “Vice President Harris, who has never run a business, is now proposing federal price controls. This should alarm every American. She claims Congress needs to ban ‘price gouging,’ which is already illegal and not the cause of high prices. The soaring prices we’re seeing are the result of inflation created by the Biden-Harris administration, not price-gouging. Her solution to what I call the Harris Price Hikes is more big government interference—where bureaucrats dictate to American businesses what they can charge. This approach never works because it reduces supply and causes shortages.”

“Basic economics, something even middle school students learn, shows that price controls are a flawed approach. It’s no surprise that this dangerous proposal comes from a career politician with no business experience” Scott continued.
He concluded, “To get inflation under control, the federal government needs to stop reckless spending and end the Biden-Harris administration’s destructive war on U.S. energy, which has driven up costs across the board.”
