A Florida man was convicted on Wednesday of second-degree homicide and firing a weapon in public.

This case was in connection to the May 9, 2020, murder of 29-year-old Alexander Antonio Nowell.

According to deputies, the murder took place at a bar called The Joint, located at 941 S. Delaney Ave. in Avon Park.

Two other men were wounded in the shooting, which stemmed from an earlier argument.

Jimmy Lamar Ford Jr., 33, will be sentenced at a later date and is still facing charges of being a convicted felon in possession of a weapon related to this case.

“Great work by Det. Du’Wayne Kelly and the rest of the Criminal Investigations Unit, as well as the District 10 office of the State’s Attorney in securing this conviction,” said Highlands County Sheriff.
