Anglers can expect partly cloudy skies with temperatures reaching the high 80s. Winds will be out of the east at 10-15 knots, with occasional gusts up to 20 knots.

Nearshore:

  • Kingfish: Nearshore waters are primed for kingfish action this weekend. Easterly winds should create favorable conditions for slow-trolling live baits. The Old Salt Fishing Club’s King of the Beach Tournament in Madeira Beach is underway, with anglers targeting both kingfish and Spanish mackerel.
  • Other species: Redfish, snook, and trout are active in the flats and around mangrove islands. Look for them around oyster bars and other structures.

Offshore:

  • Amberjack: The FWC has reopened the season for greater amberjack in state waters through May 31st, aligning with the federal season. Anglers can expect good catches offshore.
  • Blackfin Tuna: Blackfin tuna are being caught offshore, particularly around artificial reefs and wrecks.
  • Grouper and Snapper: Deeper waters are producing catches of gag grouper, red snapper (season closed), and various other snapper species.

Tips:

  • Live bait: Live baits such as pinfish, threadfin herring, and cigar minnows are producing the best results for kingfish and other nearshore species.
  • Artificial lures: For inshore fishing, topwater lures, soft plastics, and jigs are all effective for targeting redfish, snook, and trout.
  • Check regulations: Be sure to check the latest fishing regulations from the FWC for size and bag limits.

Overall: Fishing conditions along the Florida Gulf Coast are looking good this weekend, with opportunities for both nearshore and offshore anglers. Remember to check the weather forecast before heading out and always prioritize safety on the water.
