Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis chastised Vice President Kamala Harris for trying to politicize Hurricane Ian.

In an interview with Fox News’ Sean Hannity on Monday, the governor blasted Harris’ comments about equity and storm relief as “ridiculous.”

As The Free Press reported earlier this week, Harris attended the Democratic National Committee Women’s Leadership Forum on Friday. She was asked about helping southwest Florida rebuild.

“It is our lowest-income communities and communities of color that are most impacted by these extreme conditions and impacted by issues, not of their own making,” Harris said.

“We have to address this in a way that is about giving resources based on equity, understanding that we fight for equality but we also need to fight for equity, understanding not everyone starts out in the same place and if we want people to be in an equal place sometimes we have to take into account disparities and do that work.”

In response on Monday, DeSantis told Hannity, “I think she’s trying to play identity politics with a storm and a natural disaster. I think it’s ridiculous.”

“And honestly, we had the FEMA administrator in Florida with us, and she threw cold water on that. So that is not going to happen. It’s totally not appropriate,” he added.

“You don’t have to politicize every single tragedy in this country. And I think people, I tell you, in Florida, are really sick of the nonsense. They just want people to be helped, they want everyone band together, and they want us to get these communities back on our feet. So that’s what we’re doing in Florida,” DeSantis continued.

He concluded by noting, “The impacts spanned all demographics, all income levels. Sanibel [Island] has some very wealthy people. They also have blue-collar people. You have other communities, different races, different ethnicities. Who cares. We just want to make sure people have a chance to get back on their feet and get moving forward again.”

As DeSantis pointed out, FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell slammed the door on Harris’ take.

”We’re going to support all communities. I committed that to the governor, I commit to you right here that all Floridians are going to be able to get the help that is available to them through our programs,” she told CBS News on Sunday.

“These people that need our help the most are going to be able to access the help that we offer. I know that the vice president and the president, they share the same values,” Criswell added. “We are going to be there to support everybody that needs help.”
