Two meetings planned next week to gather input from Floridians about the federal Farm Bill have been scrubbed as U.S. House members try to agree on a new leader.

State Agriculture Commissioner Wilton Simpson had scheduled “listening” sessions with U.S. Rep. Scott Franklin, R-Fla., in Lake Placid and with U.S. Rep. Kat Cammack, R-Fla, in Newberry.

But Simpson’s office announced Thursday the meetings have been postponed because of “unforeseen changes to the representatives’ calendars and them needing to be in D.C. for votes.”

House Republicans are expected to gather Tuesday to hear from potential candidates to replace former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, who was ousted this week.
