WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – On Monday at approximately 12:47 p.m., 3 fire engines and one tower from the Winter Haven Fire Department along with Polk County Fire Rescue and Winter Haven Police responded to a fire that was quickly spreading at 3110 Buckeye Pointe Dr. in Winter Haven.
Firefighters found the back part of the home with flames coming out of the sliding glass doors and windows and began a defensive attack on the home, gaining control of the fire within 20 minutes.
There was one resident inside of the home, who was able to get out along with a dog.
However, two cats remained in the home. The cats were seen from the outside in a room. Firefighters rushed inside to the room where the cats were located, opened the window, and handed the cats to awaiting personnel outside.
The cats were immediately given oxygen and expected to make a full recovery.
None of the 13 firefighters who responded were injured and the resident was uninjured as well.
The cause of the fire is undetermined and the investigation is ongoing, however, it is not considered suspicious.
