TAMPA, Fla – Hillsborough County Fire Rescue fought a fire at 6710 E Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd in Tampa late Sunday afternoon. A call came in for a smoke investigation at around 4:50 PM.
The first arriving found an unusual situation involving semi-trailers with a few trailers’ tires smoking.
The captain called for more units, after discovering powerlines down across the top of several of the trailers.

“Because of the dangers associated with applying water to live electrical lines, HCFR had to await the arrival of TECO to de-energize the area before battling the blaze,” said HCFR.
Once the electrical hazard was cleared, units contained the fire quickly.
There were no threats to structures, but the fire spread, ultimately destroying 11 of the trailers on the lot.
It was determined that the lines fell on the trailers during a storm that passed through. There were no injuries to first responders or civilians.
