SPRING HILL, Fla. – An elderly woman was rescued by firefighters Sunday after a blaze started in the home’s kitchen.

Hernando County Fire Rescue was dispatched to an automatic fire alarm at 12:44 p.m. Sunday afternoon in the 1400 block of Apricot Lane in Spring Hill.

Officials say Engine 5 arrived to find smoke coming from the front of the home.

Initial reports indicated the occupant had already evacuated the residents, officials say.

Engine 5 began their fire attack and located an elderly female still inside the smoke-filled home.

Firefighters were able to rescue the victim who was evaluated on scene and later transported to an area hospital for treatment from smoke inhalation.

The fire was rapidly extinguished after the victim was rescued and confined to the kitchen area around the stove.

The cause of the fire was determined to be a result of cooking. No injuries were reported to firefighters or any pets.
