Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has declared a state of emergency for numerous Florida counties in anticipation of Hurricane Milton.

As part of this declaration, Floridians can obtain early refills of their prescriptions, including certain controlled substances, to ensure they have an adequate supply of medication in case pharmacies become inaccessible due to the storm.

This emergency refill authorization applies to all health insurers, managed care organizations, and health entities in the affected counties. It allows residents to refill prescriptions even if they haven’t reached their normal refill date.

Key Details:

  • Controlled Substances: Early refills are permitted for controlled substances, with the exception of Schedule II drugs as defined in Chapter 893, Florida Statutes.
  • Duration: This provision remains in effect until the Governor’s state of emergency order is rescinded or expires.

The Florida Department of Health encourages residents to take advantage of this opportunity to ensure they have the necessary medications on hand as Hurricane Milton approaches. Contact your pharmacy or healthcare provider for further information about obtaining early refills.
