Disney recently announced that it was ditching the term “fairy godmother.” Why?

So “cast members that might not identify as female can still be part of the process to dress up & style the children without having to refer to themselves as a female Disney character,” the company said on its Streaming the Magic blog.

Prior to the decision young patrons at Disney World and the company’s other parks could visit the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique to receive a makeover as their favorite Disney character.

Previously, a “fairy godmother in training” handled the makeover. Now, however, they will be called “Fairy God Mother’s Apprentices.”

“Disney will continue their efforts at being more inclusive with all guests & cast members,” the company explained of the change.

The shift in language to appease “cast members that might not identify as female” is the latest in a string of concessions to LGBTQ activists that have created problems for Disney.

One such incident was the company’s outspoken opposition to Florida’s Parental Rights in Education law, which took effect on July 1.

Disney was silent as the bill went through the process. But after it passed Disney CEO Bob Chapek asserted that the measure should never have become law and that Disney would fight to overturn it in the courts or get it repealed in the Legislature.

Yet Disney’s stance led critics to allege that Disney, which arguably pitches itself as the most family-oriented company in America, found it acceptable for classroom teachers or school districts to implement lesson plans for students in grades K-3, which the law bans.

Disney’s position led GOP lawmakers in the Legislature to pass a bill – which Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis signed – eradicating the special tax that governs Disney by July 2023.

Around that time, a video leaked of Disney producers expressing pride in the company’s pro-gay agenda, including one exec who wanted half of Disney’s characters to represent the LGBTQ community or other minorities.

Then, as the Supreme Court overturned the 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling on abortion, Disney announced it would pay travel expenses for employees seeking out-of-state abortions.

The consequences have been evident in the market.

Yahoo Finance reported Monday that Wells Fargo analyst Steven Cahall noted that the “wheels have come off” Disney’s stock value this year, as its share price has fallen 34 percent over the past year, nearly triple the decline in the Dow Jones key benchmark.
