Last weekend former President Donald Trump and his wife, Melania, hosted at their Mar-a-Lago resort the inauguration of the “Republican Pride Coalition.”

The concept was pitched as a partnership between the mainstream Republican Party and the Log Cabin Republicans, a group of gay Republicans that seeks to promote conservative ideas within the LGBT community.

According to Fox News, Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel declared at the event, “Conservatives in Log Cabin don’t just share our vision for a free, secure and prosperous America — they enrich it by adding unique perspectives to our party and recruiting even more diverse candidates and supporters to join our cause.”

Log Cabin Republicans President Charles Moran told Fox, “When LGBT conservatives are included in Republican campaigns, we win.”

Yet conservative commentator Matt Walsh this week criticized the idea, suggesting that the GOP’s embrace of an “LGBT pride coalition” ultimately blurs the line between the party’s values and the Democrats, who already promote the LGBT agenda full bore.

During his podcast, Walsh denied that he wanted to exclude gays from the conservative coalition, as some on the right maintain, such as Ric Grennell, Trump’s former intelligence director, who is gay.

Rather, Walsh argued that promoting “gay pride” is a bad idea for Republicans because it is really a political ideology that is inherently hostile to what the GOP stands for.

“The problem with gay pride and why it doesn’t belong in the conservative movement [is] that it was from the beginning, has always been, and is now an anti-family, anti virtue, anti-Christian left-wing phenomenon.”

“If that is conservative, then conservatism is totally indistinguishable from leftism at best. It becomes a different side of the same coin,” he added.

Walsh noted that, in this regard, the new coalition is really no different than those conservatives who believe they can promote a purer form of radical feminism.

Walsh suggested by taking this step conservatives now have a more difficult time of criticizing a host of issues that liberals advocate: that it, things like drag queens hosting “story hours” with young children; public school elementary teachers leading field trips to gay bars; transgender policies that open girls’ sports and locker rooms to biological boys, or force taxpayers to pay for conversion surgery for trans people who join the military; the demands that people eschew everyday English and use “preferred” pronouns.

“Are we embracing gender theory, perhaps looking for a pure conservative form of gender theory?” Walsh said.

“What’s next conservative Critical Race Theory, conservative Marxism, conservative communism? Where does it end? … (W)here it ends really [is] … in confusion, impotence, the death of anything resembling conservatism – unless we come to our senses and start drawing clear lines,” Walsh concluded.
