The Knights of Columbus and the Florida Conference of Catholic Bishops have collectively contributed substantial funds this month to oppose a proposed amendment that would enshrine abortion rights in Florida’s Constitution.
According to state campaign-finance records, the Knights of Columbus donated $500,000 to Florida Voters Against Extremism, a political committee dedicated to defeating Amendment 4 on the November 5 ballot.

Meanwhile, the Florida Conference of Catholic Bishops contributed $100,000 this month, in addition to nearly $172,000 previously donated in cash and in-kind support.
The Archdiocese of Miami also made a recent in-kind contribution valued at $62,000, following earlier cash donations totaling about $322,000.
The proposed amendment would protect the right to abortion before fetal viability or when necessary for the patient’s health, as determined by their healthcare provider.

Floridians Protecting Freedom, the committee supporting the amendment, initiated its campaign following legislation passed by Governor Ron DeSantis and the Republican-led Legislature that restricts abortions after six weeks of pregnancy. The Florida Conference of Catholic Bishops has consistently advocated for stricter abortion regulations in Tallahassee.
