Trulieve, a major cannabis company, has poured nearly $88 million into the campaign to legalize recreational marijuana in Florida.

The company’s recent $4.5 million contribution accounts for almost all the funds raised by the Smart & Safe Florida committee in early September.

The proposed amendment, set to appear as Amendment 3 on the November ballot, would allow adults 21 and older to possess, purchase, and use marijuana for non-medical personal use.

If passed in November, Amendment 3 would legalize adult-use marijuana, building on the state’s existing medical marijuana program established in 2016.

This follows the success of a 2016 constitutional amendment that legalized medical marijuana in Florida.
