Joining Gaetz in issuing the letter were Florida Reps. Greg Steube and Bill Posey, as well as Rep. Thomas Massie, Marjorie Taylor Greene and Paul Gosar.

A California man faces up to five years in prison after pleading guilty to threatening U.S. Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla.

Eugene Huelsman, a 59-year-old resident of Thousand Oaks, Calif., pleaded guilty Thursday to one count of transmission of a threat in interstate commerce, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Florida.

Huelsman left a voice mail at Gaetz’s district office in Pensacola that included a threat to “put a bullet in” Gaetz and members of the congressman’s family, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

“The investigation revealed this was not the first time Huelsman made threats involving political figures. Huelsman had previously been investigated for threatening a member of a former president’s family via social media,” the news release said.

A sentencing hearing for Huelsman has been set for June 30 at the federal courthouse in Pensacola. In addition to a maximum five-year sentence, Huelsman could face a fine of up to $250,000.
