It seems Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is not the only Republican being trolled by left-wing California Gov. Gavin Newsom.
Newsom, a Democrat, last week ran full-page ads in major Texas newspapers criticizing Gov. Greg Abbott for his state’s new anti-abortion bill.
The ads substituted Newsom’s words for those Abbott said in comments about the aborton law.
Abbott had said, “Our creator endowed us with the right to life. And yet… children lose their right to life every year because of abortion. In Texas, we work to save those lives.”
Newsom swapped out “abortion” for “gun violence” and repleaced “Texas” with “California.”
Newsom was promoting a new gun control bill he signed last week. The law allows Californians to sue those who use illegal guns in crimes as well as those who sell guns that are used in a crime.
He displayed the ad on Twitter, and in his post added, “Texans will wake up this morning to this simple message: If Texas can ban abortion and endanger lives, California can ban deadly weapons of war and save lives. If @GovAbbott truly wants to protect the right to life, he should follow California’s lead.”

Newsom did something similar with DeSantis over the Fourth of July weekend.
He posted a video aimed at liberals in Florida, claiming “freedom is under attack” in the Sunshine State.
And then he made an odd bid that somehow led Newsom to believe he was hurting DeSantis: He invited Democrats in Florida to seek “freedom” by moving to California.
Newsom’s Florida fail was proven by his own actions and census data, as The Free Press reported earlier this month.
For one thing, the assertion that DeSantis is undermining freedom was delivered by the architect of the most draconian COVID-19 lockdown and mask-mandate policies in the nation. Moreover, from July 2020 to July 2021, Florida added more than 211,000 new residents from outside the state; In that same period, more than 250,000 people fled California.
Newsom announced the gun bill and in doing so, said gun violence in Texas was 67 percent higher than in California. Yet the California Globe reported on Saturday that Newsom was wrong.
At best, if one considers all gun violence, including suicides, Texas is about 15 percent higher. If you subtract suicides, California acutally has more gun murders and police-related shootings than Texas, the Globe reported. Overall, murders make up 45 percent of the gun violence in California, yet just 36 percent in Texas.
“California has more homicides and police shootings than Texas,” the Globe reported, yet “California already has some of the strictest gun laws in the country.”
The website further noted, “In fact, shootings in downtown Sacramento (the state capital) are a nightly occurrence now, and on weekends even more shootings take place. Is this ‘gun violence,’ because Gov. Newsom is silent about the escalating violent crime and gang shootings in Sacramento and the state, but laser-focused on gun control of lawful gun owners.”

In June, the Public Policy Institute of California reported, “In 2020, California saw a jump of more than 500 homicides, the largest jump in state history since record-keeping began in 1960. The 2020 increase of 460 gun-related homicides represent more than 90% of the overall increase in homicides.” Again in a state with the toughest gun-control laws in the nation.
It seems unlikely that either DeSantis or Abbott will be much troubled on being lectured by their Democratic counterpart in California, who is presiding over the state’s biggest population exodus in its history, and a record-setting spike in gun homicides.
