BRANDON, Fla. – Hillsborough County Fire Rescue responded to a structure fire late Friday night at 2002 Plantation Key Circle in Brandon.

HCFR’s Emergency Dispatch Center received a 911 call at 9:54 from a first-party caller reporting smoke in a hallway in the apartment building. HCFR’s Engine 45 was first on the scene, reporting smoke from the exterior and a bottom-story apartment charged with smoke.

It took firefighters twelve minutes to find and extinguish the fire, limiting it to the exterior wall of the building. Crews searched apartments and made sure all occupants were out of the building.

Firefighters continued to overhaul the structure, making sure there was no extension of the fire to any other parts of the building.

There were no injuries to first responders or civilians. The cause of the fire was determined to be electrical, which started in a first-floor utility closet and then climbed up the exterior wall of the building.

The American Red Cross has been called in to assist residents who have been displaced.
