Biden Is Doing The Impossible: New Poll Shows His Approval Rating Is Underwater In California

California is arguably the bluest state in America.

For years now, Democrats have banked on a significant head start in presidential elections as the Golden State’s 50-plus electoral votes – or almost 20 percent of the amount needed to win – were in the Democratic column almost before the first vote was cast.

But President Joe Biden is doing the impossible: He’s losing California.

Much like Hillary Clinton in 2016, Biden ran up the score in the 2020 popular vote because of California. He won the state by 5.1 million votes over former President Donald Trump, the bulk of the 7 million vote margin he posted over the incumbent.

That equated to 64 percent of the vote in California.

But a new poll by the University of California-Berkeley reveals that Biden’s approval rating is underwater.

Among the more than 7,000 voters polled, just 47 percent approve of Biden’s job performance, compared to 48 percent that do not.

In UC-Berkeley’s survey last April, his approval rating was 62 percent, which mirrored his 2020 vote ratio.

One striking detail in the new poll: the total of those who “strongly” approve of Biden has plummeted 22 points since April, down to 17 percent today.

Biden’s No. 2 is not doing any better, despite being a Californian.

Vice President Kamala Harris’ approval rating is just 38 percent, down from 53 percent last April.

One surprise in UC-Berkeley’s poll: The young have turned dramatically on the nearly octogenarian Biden.

Only 34 percent of voters 18 to 29 support Biden, compared to 53 percent in that bracket who do not.

One more item of note in UC-Berkeley’s poll: Although California is overwhelmingly Democratic, poll respondents roundly reject Congress, which is also controlled by Democrats.

Just 20 percent of UC-Berkeley poll respondents say they approved of Congress’ performance, compared to 72 percent who don’t.
