Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes declared on Sunday that she has no plans to drop the ongoing criminal case against a group of allies of President-elect Donald Trump who attempted to challenge the results of the 2020 election in Arizona.

“I have no intention of breaking that case up. I have no intention of dropping it,” Mayes, a Democrat, told MSNBC’s Ali Velshi. “A grand jury in the state of Arizona decided that these individuals who engaged in an attempt to overthrow our democracy in 2020 should be held accountable, so we won’t be cowed, we won’t be intimidated.”

In April, a state grand jury indicted over a dozen Trump associates for allegedly trying to submit an alternate slate of electors to the Electoral College despite Joe Biden’s narrow victory in the state.

Among the high-profile defendants are former Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani and ex-White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows.

The list of those charged also includes Arizona GOP Chair Kelli Ward and her husband, Michael Ward; state Senator Anthony Kern; former Cochise County GOP leader Robert Montgomery; Republican activists Samuel Moorhead, Nancy Cottle, and Loraine Pellegrino; former Arizona GOP Executive Director Greg Safsten; Trump attorney Christina Bobb; and Tyler Bowyer, the Arizona committeeman for the Republican National Committee and COO of Trump-aligned Turning Point Action.

All defendants have been arraigned and entered not-guilty pleas.

The trial is scheduled for 2026, but the defendants actively seek to dismiss the case.
