The snacker-in-chief has found another food issue he can sink his teeth into: soft-serve ice cream.

The Biden administration is now going after the maker of the ice cream machines inside McDonald’s restaurants, seeking to override “right-to-repair” laws that mandate fixes for certain equipment can only be made by the manufacturer.

“Out of order” signs on ice cream machines, especially at McDonald’s, have become “a running joke and meme.”

Customers’ frustration about this situation is rooted in the fact that the machines inside McDonald’s stores come from a specific manufacturer that authorizes only their technicians to make repairs.

“Consequently, when a machine breaks down, locations are left grappling with long wait times as they are forced to be added to a lengthy repair queue,” the Post Millennial reported.

“The Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) have taken notice of this issue, recently penning a joint letter to the U.S. Copyright Office. In the letter, they advocate for commercial soft-serve machines to be exempt from existing right-to-repair laws that have allowed this process to remain in place,” the outlet continued.

“The DOJ and FTC argue that granting these exemptions would foster competition in markets for replacement parts, repair, and maintenance services, ultimately benefiting consumers and businesses alike.”

The agencies noted that each restaurant can lose up to $625 a day in sales while being forced to pay a tech $300 for a 15-minute repair job.

Food has been a special concern for President Joe Biden.

For example, ever since the Super Bowl, he has been on a tear about potato chip companies causing “shrinkflation” by giving fewer chips per bag at the same price.

Also, as NPA reported last month, while Biden’s inflationary economic policies have driven up the cost of everyday groceries, such as eggs and milk, Biden has berated grocery chains for overcharging customers.

And who could forget during Biden’s first year in office when the administration actually thought it was scoring political points by noting that the menu of a Fourth of July cookout was a whole 16 cents cheaper in 2021 than in 2020.
