PINELLAS COUNTY, FL. - At 7:15 pm, a man in a wheelchair was struck by a vehicle in the 2100 block of 5th Ave. N. The man killed was identified as

PINELLAS COUNTY, FL. – At 7:15 pm, a man in a wheelchair was struck by a vehicle in the 2100 block of 5th Ave. N.

The man killed was identified as Marcelo Benedicto, 79, and a Navy Veteran. Police say Benedicto lived only a few blocks from the crash site

Police say the man died at the scene and the vehicle fled.

5th Ave. was closed in all directions from the 275 ramp to 24th St. for the investigation.

There is no additional information on the vehicle.
