CLEARWATER, Fla. – Clearwater Police and Clearwater Fire & Rescue responded to a car fire at the Edge Hotel, 505 S. Gulfview Blvd., just before 2:30 a.m. Wednesday.

“A preliminary investigation by Clearwater Police homicide detectives has found that this morning’s incident at the Edge Hotel was an apparent suicide. An adult male set the car on fire and then shot himself. It is believed he is not from this area,” police say.

Officials say the car was located on the third floor of the parking garage.

After firefighters put out the fire, one deceased person was found inside.

Arson investigators from the police and fire department were on the scene investigating.
