It seems to be an open-and-shut case that first son Hunter Biden should be arrested and prosecuted for openly defying a congressional subpoena.
But the constant corruption flowing out of the White House makes Rep. Matt Gaetz skeptical that Democrats will live up to the standards they set for others, such as those called to testify before the left-wing committee that former Democratic Speaker Nancy Pelosi hand-picked to probe the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol.
On X (formerly Twitter), the Fort Walton Beach Republican recently called the impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden’s role in Hunter’s shady financial dealings appropriate. He also noted a distinction between the GOP investigation of the Bidens and the J6 panel.
Gaetz noted that Peter Navarro and Steve Bannon, both one-time advisers to former President Donald Trump, were indicted on contempt of Congress charges for failing to comply with the “illegitimate” J6 Committee.
“There was no basis to comply with the Democrats’ fake committee,” Gaetz said.

On the other hand, he added, “Hunter Biden should be held in contempt of Congress for defying a subpoena from the House Oversight Committee, but it’s clear the corrupt White House and corrupt DOJ [Department of Justice] will protect their own from prosecution while shamelessly targeting their political enemies.”
Gaetz pointed out that Matthew Graves, the federal prosecutor who went after Navarro and Bannon, worked on Joe Biden’s presidential campaign.
“I doubt we’ll be seeing the same indictments against Hunter. This process will not be fixed until we initiate total retribution against the Deep State for what they’re doing to our country,” Gaetz said.
In separate comments, made in an email to his constituents on Friday, Gaetz slammed Hunter for his “performative” press conference outside the Capitol on Wednesday, and noted that House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer and House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan seek to initiate contempt of Congress proceedings against Hunter.
“Hunter Biden is not above the law,” said Gaetz. “The evidence collected against the Biden Crime Family speaks for itself. From bribes to a vast web of shell companies to wash the money, to pressuring federal law enforcement to protect them from their crimes, this has become a massive corruption ring.”
“An impeachment inquiry is warranted,” he continued, “though insufficient to deal with the harm they have caused our great nation.”
