BROOKSVILLE, Fla. - Hernando County Fire Rescue (HCFR) and Sheriff's deputies were called to a house on Powell Road in Brooksville on Monday, just after 4:30 p.m., about a possible drowning.

BROOKSVILLE, Fla. – Hernando County Fire Rescue (HCFR) and Sheriff’s deputies were called to a house on Powell Road in Brooksville on Monday, just after 4:30 p.m., about a possible drowning.

A 13-month-old boy had fallen into a decorative pond on the property, the 911 caller reported, and he was not breathing or conscious. Family members performed CPR.

Upon arrival, deputies took over CPR. Deputies performed CPR on the child until the arrival of HCFR.

Paramedics, while continuing to provide advanced life support, transported the child to a nearby landing zone, where he was airlifted to St. Joseph’s Hospital.

Sadly, at 6:01 p.m., detectives were notified the child died from injuries sustained in the drowning.

Preliminary investigation reveals no signs of foul play. The incident appears to have been a tragic accident, deputies say.
