ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Two people are alive tonight after an off-duty deputy and Fire Rescue personnel jumped into the pond where a vehicle had crashed and was sinking.
At approximately 5:45 pm St. Petersburg Fire Rescue responded to reports of a vehicle that crashed into a pond at Ulmerton Rd and Feather Sound Dr.
An off-duty Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office deputy witnessed the accident and immediately jumped into the water.
That deputy was able to get the driver out of the vehicle.
When Fire Rescue crews arrived, a paramedic from SPFR jumped into the water as the vehicle was sinking and rescued the passenger from the vehicle.
Pinellas Park Fire Rescue placed a ladder into the water so the paramedic and passenger could safely make it to shore.
The couple in the vehicle were uninjured. FHP is investigating the crash.
