The number of Florida hospital inpatients with COVID-19 has continued to drop and is nearing 2,000, according to data released Tuesday by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

The data showed that 2,033 Florida inpatients had COVID-19, as hospitalizations and cases continue dropping after surges in December and January because of the highly contagious omicron variant of the coronavirus. As a comparison, 7,420 inpatients had COVID-19 on Feb. 8.

The new data showed 298 COVID-19 patients in intensive-care units. On Feb. 8, 1,147 patients were in intensive-care units.
