POLK COUNTY, FL. – A 44-year-old Illinois woman was hit by a tractor-trailer and killed on I-4 on Monday morning.
According to Florida Highway Patrol, at 10:44 am, a tractor-trailer was traveling westbound on I-4 in the outside lane at Kathleen Road in Lakeland.
Investigators say the Illinois woman walked southbound, trying to cross the interstate, from the north shoulder and entered the path of the tractor-trailer.
The truck collided with the woman, who suffered fatal injuries at the scene of the crash.
Troopers say the woman is from Oak Lawn, Illinois, but no other identifying information has been released.
